Integrating EDI and the Shipping Process

Effective and timely communication via EDI can reduce errors and save you time & money

The fundamental issue remains solid: companies who incorporate EDI and exchange business documents/data electronically save on personnel and physical resources, eliminate errors and accelerate transactions dramatically in a totally secure environment. And when it comes to shipping, these benefits can be felt across all trading partners.

In order to achieve this, businesses must create a bi-directional exchange of EDI documents between the EDI service provider and their shipping system. Scancode has created an integrated solution using its Order Express Smart Shipping Client that simplifies this task and creates endless possibilities for EDI and shipping.

Here's how it all works

Order Express automatically imports shipping order data from an inbound electronic (XML) document like a purchase order. As orders are picked and filled, Order Express simultaneously generates a packing slip to accompany the shipment along with a shipping label, and a UCC 128 barcode describing the container and its contents.

Scancode Order Express then automatically prepares and sends an XML advance ship notice to the EDI service provider, who in turn forwards it to the retailer while Order Express tenders the shipment to the parcel carrier.
